Reproductive Rights Caucus
Brown Dems Reproductive Right Caucus was created with the goal for students to promote and educate on reproductive rights policy and information to protect our bodily autonomy and safeguard our future through active involvement in Rhode Island legislature, advocacy efforts, and presentations, including testimony writing and supporting local organizations.

On April 10, 2025, members of the caucus testified at the State House in support of Senate bills that would increase the scope of work licensed midwifery could provide. These bills are exceptionally important to the work of local midwifery.

On April 8, 2025, members of the caucus showed support for health providers at the House Health and Human Services Committee meeting, testifying against the harmful proposed legislations with punitive measures for providing reproductive care.

Jocelyn Foye from The Womxn Project, a local grassroots organization known for its creative and artistic lobbying tactics, spoke at our caucus meeting in preparation for the 2024 November election and educated us about the Bodily Freedom Forever Index.

Our caucus phonebanked for District 39 Representative Cotter.

Rhode Island ACLU's Steven Brown and Madalyn McGunagle presented at our caucus meeting. This legislative training exposed our members to the nuances of the Rhode Island legislature and informed us of ACLU's initiatives.

Brown Arts Institute hosted a screening of "Zurawski v. Texas", a documentary revealing the dire impact of losing access to healthcare, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and Prof. Tobin-Tyler. Our caucus tabled at the reception of the event.

As part of the effort to increase student engagement, we tabled on the Main Green during A Day on College Hill (ADOCH) with free cookies and merchandise. Students receive rewards simply for naming their congressional representatives.

Collaborated with Women's Health Advocacy Group and Planned Parenthood Advocates in bringing legislator (Representative Speakman) and providers from Open Door Health—RI’s first LGBTQ-focused health clinic—together for a conversation.
