THE CLIMATE CAUCUS

MARCH 9, 2023

The climate caucus submits testimony In support of H5172, Energy Facilities Siting Act.

Bill H5172, Energy Facilities Siting Act, includes targets for carbon emission reduction in consideration of siting and construction of new energy plants. Not only is energy facility siting often overlooked even though it is a large contributor to carbon emissions, but this bill would be one of the first in the nation to include carbon emission reduction to be an essential part of protecting public interest when considering energy plans. This bill would further support the Act on Climate targets and get us to a more carbon neutral world, which is why Brown Dems strongly supports H5172!

MARCH 7, 2023

The climate caucus submits its first testimony on h5600, THE all electric BUILDINGS act.

H5600 provides that no city or town would issue a permit for the construction of new buildings/projects that are not an all-electric building, where all electric building/project is defined as a building or project that uses a permanent supply of electricity as sole source of energy, if the initial application for a permit was submitted after December 31, 2024, unless certain circumstances apply. Commissions must also report what is necessary to not diminish production of affordable housing/affordability of electricity. This bill is critical to make the transition to Renewable Energy by 2033 and follow the Act on Climate targets, which is why Brown Dems strongly supports this!
